Remote Printer Redirection |
|
Instructions for Remote Printer Redirection 1. Install the printer drivers on both the local and remote computers.
2. Make sure that the checkbox for Printers is checked on the the Remote Desktop Connection window under the Local Resources tab.
![]() 3. If the printer uses a Parallel Port connection the printer should redirect at this point.
4. If the printer uses a USB Port connection or if you are having difficulty forwarding a Parallel Port you will have to add the following registry entry.
5. To force printer forwarding: - Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. - Locate and then click the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default\AddIns\RDPDR (This key will only be present if a Remote Desktop session has been initiated before) - On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. - Type FilterQueueType, and then press ENTER. - On the Edit menu, click Modify. - Type FFFFFFFF (there a 8 of them), and then click OK. This enables all ports on the client to be redirected.
6. To work around this problem on a client computer that has a multifunction print device, it may be necessary to change the port the device uses from DOT4 to LPT. IMPORTANT: When a multifunction printer is using a standard LPT port instead of the DOT4 port, it loses its multifunction capabilities, such as scanning, faxing, or copying. To regain this functionality, the print device must be returned to the DOT4 port.
7. If the Remote Printer Redirection is still not functioning, check the antivirus firewall or internet security software. I have found in the past that some of the Internet Security software will block redirection, in particular Norton Internet Security.
